Assemblymember Jim Frazier Issues Statement on Governor Brown’s 2014-15 Budget Proposal

I commend the Governor for his commitment to a sustainable budget plan that keeps California on the road to financial stability and prosperity.  I’m also pleased to see that our schools and several health-related programs such as in-home supportive services and mental health services will see an increase in much-needed funding.

While this budget proposal is a great starting point, we still have a lot of work to do on the transportation front. Instead of focusing on the beleaguered high-speed rail project, we need to focus our attention on finding ways to fund our existing transportation infrastructure projects that desperately need restoration. Funding shovel ready projects would significantly improve safety and reduce greenhouse gas emissions on our roads and highways while creating job opportunities for many Californians. In addition, I will continue to be a strong advocate for restoring the devastating cuts that were made to our court system, public safety and our special needs population.

I am optimistic about California’s future and I look forward to sharing ideas with my colleagues and Governor Brown as we move toward the adoption of a budget plan that meets the needs of our constituents and all Californians.
