Anytime that a Veteran is honored, its a great day! This week, Assemblyman Jim Frazier (D-Oakley) named Jeffrey Jewell of Vacaville as his 2013 Veteran of the Year in the Assembly District.

Here is the Press Release via the Assemblyman’s Office.

Sacramento, CA – Assemblymember Jim Frazier (D-Oakley) has named Jeffrey Jewell of Vacaville as his “2013 Veteran of the Year” for the 11th Assembly District.

“Mr. Jewell’s contributions to the welfare and improvement of the veterans’ community are invaluable,” said Assemblymember Frazier. “His exemplary record serves as an excellent model for all public-spirited people of the state, and we are grateful for all of his selfless contributions and sacrifices.”

Jewell’s commitment to community service was sparked at a young age when he joined the Boy Scouts of America, serving all the way through Eagle Scouts and Order of the Arrow. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Air Force and simultaneously worked as an avid volunteer for the Suicide Prevention Hotline, Big Brothers, Boy Scouts, and also as an English teacher to Japanese businessmen while he was stationed in Japan.

Jeff began giving back to the veterans’ community while working at the Solano County Veterans Service Office, which later lead him to become active with the Vacaville Veterans Building. His civic-service record speaks for itself; he served as past commander for Vacaville’s Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion, and the United Veterans Memorial Association. He currently serves in various veterans’ organizations including as Director of the Sacramento Vet Center, where he helps provide counseling, outreach, and referral services to veterans in the Sacramento area in order to help them make a satisfying post-war readjustment to civilian life.  He also serves as Chair of the Vet Center National Homeless Veterans Working Group, and Co-Director of the annual North Bay Homeless Veterans Stand Down at the Dixon Mayfair Grounds.

“I am humbled and honored that Assemblymember Frazier would think to choose me,” said Jewell. “I don’t do this for recognition or a pat on the back; I do this because I truly love the work.”

The California State Assembly Veterans Affairs Committee held an annual luncheon in Sacramento on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 to honor our service men and women. Attached is a photo of Assemblymember Frazier recognizing Jeffrey Jewell on the Assembly floor with an Assembly Resolution.
