SACRAMENTO – Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon as appointed Assemblymember Jim Frazier, D-Discovery Bay, to serve on the California Commission on Disability Access.

“The Commission welcomes Assemblymember Frazier,” said CCDA Executive Director Angela Jemmot. “He has been a passionate and effective advocate in the Legislature for those with disabilities during his service in the Assembly. In addition, prior to joining the Assembly, Mr. Frazier was a successful building contractor. He will bring a lot of valuable experience to the Commission.”

The California Commission on Disability Access was established in 2009 to promote access for those with disabilities. It serves as an information resource and advises the Legislature on access issues, compliance inspections and continuing education. The Commission also seeks to increase coordination between stakeholders, makes recommendations to promote compliance with federal and state laws and regulations and provides uniform information about programmatic and architectural disability access requirements.

The Commission, established by Senate Bill 1608 (2008), consists of 17 members appointed by the governor, the Legislature and the state Attorney General and the state Architect. The Commission meets several times each year in different parts of the state.

“It is my honor to be selected by the Speaker to serve on the Commission on Disability Access,” Frazier said. “I look forward to getting to know my colleagues on the Commission and to working collaboratively with government, the private sector and the disabled community to remove barriers to access in California.”
