Asm Frazier Opposes Immigration Detention Camp Proposal for Concord Naval Weapons Station

by ECT

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Jim Frazier (D-Discovery Bay) released the following statement Tuesday in response to reports of a planned immigration detainment camp at the former Concord Naval Weapons Station.

“As a native of Concord, I am totally against any use of the Concord Naval Weapons Station for the detainment of immigrants, especially children. Housing families at a Superfund site is not the answer. We must treat families with respect and compassion, consistent with our values as a nation. This proposed tent city would represent a colossal humanitarian failure and financial waste for American taxpayers, costing hundreds of millions of dollars and damaging countless children and families in the process.

I urge the Administration and Congress to take action on comprehensive immigration reform to protect these families and American taxpayers, and finally provide a sensible solution to federal immigration policies. Our priority must be finding a way forward that honors our nation’s founding principles and safeguards those seeking refuge from violence. I stand with my Contra Costa County colleagues in the Legislature and Congress, members of the faith community, medical experts, and many others of all political persuasions in calling for a halt to this administration’s harmful immigration practices.”

Assemblymember Frazier represents the 11th Assembly District, which includes the communities of Antioch, Bethel Island, Birds Landing, Brentwood, Byron, Collinsville, Discovery Bay, Fairfield, Isleton, Knightsen, Locke, Oakley, Pittsburg (partial), Rio Vista, Suisun City, Travis AFB, Vacaville and Walnut Grove.

How many immigration bills have you supported Frazier? Sounds like congress is the problem not immigrants. At least the President is trying. He needs your help not obstructions. Let’s get a solution and issues like this will not come up.

Hey Jimmy, you think you can remove your campaign signs in Brentwood and Byron? We are tired of looking at them.
