April 30:

8:00 am: Brentwood Farmers Market
Join the Brentwood Farmers Market which runs every Saturday now through November 19 on Oak Street in Brentwood. The market runs from 8:00 am to noon.


8:30 am: Mike “Bear Cub” Truitt Memorial Event
8th Annual APD Ofc Mike “Bear Cub” Truitt Memorial Ride from Antioch Police Station to Ironstone Vineyard for Lunch. Bikes leave at 10:00 am. Lunch included in $25 registration. 10:00 am: Rally Kickoff Yes on Measure K
The New Oakley Library and Community Learning Center Committee is holding a rally kickoff for the “Vote YES on Measure K Campaign” on April 30, 2016. The rally will start at 10am and will be at the Downtown City Park Amphitheater, proposed site for the new library.

This rally is open to the public and will directly support efforts already underway by the Committee to share information about the benefits of the ballot measure and value of the proposed new downtown facility with voters.

10:00 am: Livermore Wine Country Downtown Street Fest
2016 Livermore Wine Country Downtown Street Fest is the largest celebration of wine, craft brews, arts, crafts, shopping, dining, entertainment and hometown charm in the East Bay!

10:00 am: Law Enforcement National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
Law enforcement across East Contra Costa County will participate in the 11th opportunity in six years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your pills for disposal at the following sites. The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches.

The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

10:00 am: Antioch Chamber Ribbon Cutting at City Sports Club
On Saturday April 30th you are invited to City Sport’s Grand Opening Event. Start off the day with a Ribbon Cutting hosted by the Antioch Chamber of Commerce.  Bring your workout clothes and enjoy complimentary workouts. Free ZUMBA class at noon, complimentary personal training clinic at 2pm, free basketball throw event from 2 pm-4 pm, face painting clown from 10 am – 3pm.. 11:00 am: Antioch Chamber Ribbon Cutting at AAA (New Location)
Join AAA as they open their new facility in the Slatten Ranch Shopping Center at 5799 Lone Tree Way in Antioch. 5:00 pm: 10th Annual Wine, Chocolate & Beer Festival
The 10th Anniversary Wine, Chocolate, and Beer Festival will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Newberry Estate Vineyards in beautiful Brentwood, California. If still available, tickets will be available for purchase at the event for $60 each.

8:00 pm: The Ray Charles Project at El Campanil
In tribute to the genius of Ray Charles, a swinging sextet of outstanding Bay Area musicians offers their take on some of the highlights from Ray’s amazing songbook. A band of prominent musicians is perpetuating that legacy and bringing his music to San Francisco. The band is a meeting of elite jazz and blues musicians including 11-time GRAMMY® Award winner and Santana vocalist Tony Lindsay, noted Bay Area guitarist Chris Cain & soul filled vocals from Glenn Walters. 9:00 am: Basic Civilian Handgun Training Course
Delta Tactical training Group will host a Basic Civilian Handgun Training Course is designed for civilians with little or no experience using handguns, however, we welcome people with all levels of expertise. You will learn basic firearm laws and range safety rules, as well as how to correctly store and transport a firearm. You’ll leave this course with the knowledge and skills you need to safely own and operate a firearm.

May 3: Opportunity Junction Open House
Learn more about Opportunity Junction and the free job training, career counseling and college assistance programs it offers by attending an Open House on Tuesday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to noon at 3102 Delta Fair Blvd. in Antioch. Anyone interested in the programs — including neighbors, donors, friends and job seekers — can drop by to meet the staff, tour the facilities and enjoy light refreshments. Job seekers who bring a resume will receive a free review and expert advice on ways to sharpen it, and those who sign up in advance will be entered into a raffle for prizes. May 7: Lynn House “Through My Lens” Exhibit

The 2nd Annual “Through My Lens” exhibit, at the Lynn House Gallery in Antioch, begins May 7th and runs through May 21st. There is no admission fee and the free opening artist reception will be held on Saturday, May 7th from 2-4 PM.

This year, the exhibit focus is our Antioch community and the digital images may be used for promotional efforts by the Arts & Cultural Foundation of Antioch (ACFA), City of Antioch and the Antioch Chamber of Commerce.

The Lynn House Gallery is located at 809 West 1st Street in downtown Antioch (across the street from AMTRAK) and is open from 1-4 PM on Wednesdays and Saturdays during exhibits.

May 14: 3rd Annual Poker Run/Scavenger Hunt

VFW Post 10789 will hold its 3rd Annual Poker Run / Scavenger hunt on May 14th 2016. There is a kids area with jumpy and crafts and games. Raffle prizes for kids and adults, Pancake breakfast and lunch included in event.

All funds raised got to helping Veterans and their families in our district which includes Bethel Island, Oakley, Knightson, Brentwood, Discovery Bay and Byron. May 14: John Marsh House Guided Hike

The John Marsh Historic Trust announced that on May 14, the public will have a rare opportunity to enjoy a hike through part of the Marsh Creek State Park, usually closed to the public.

Participants may enjoy panoramic views of the area; watch raptors ride the morning thermals; and get a sense of the trees, wildflowers, rock formations and other natural features of the property. The hike is 3 to 4 miles, and includes some moderate elevation gains.

The $20 fee is tax-deductible, and will help support the John Marsh Historic Trust’s efforts to restore John Marsh’s 160-year-old Stone House, and open other parts of the 3,700-acre park to the public.

May 14: Oakley Chamber of Commerce Wine & Whiskey Event
The Annual Wine and Whiskey Event will be held on May 14th, 2016 at La Grande Event Center. Tickets go on sale in February. Make sure to watch the February newsletter for details as tickets sold out in less than two weeks last year! You do not want to miss this amazing event!
