April 28 – May 4: Antioch Police Briefs

According to Antioch City Manager Steve Duran, the Antioch Police Department had 1,765 calls for service between April 28 – May 4.

Of those calls, 75 arrests were made. 24 arrests were felony and 51 were misdemeanor. They also made 8-DUI arrest.

POLICE DEPARTMENT UPDATES

  • On 5/4/16 at 7:15 pm, four victims were sitting in a car in the school parking lot after hours at Black Diamond Middle School when two adult males wearing masks approached them. The suspects simulated having weapons and demanded all of
    the victims’ property. The victims gave the responsibles their phones and wallets. As one of the suspects was leaving, he struck one of the victims on the back of the head with what was believed to be a gun. The suspects fled on foot into the neighborhood. The victims went to a nearby residence and called the police. The victim that was struck on the head sustained minor injuries and refused any medical attention. The suspects were not located.
  • On 5/4/16 at 5:03 pm, officers were working a proactive detail when they observed a vehicle occupied by 18 year old Javell Cooksey, 18 year old Kendell LedbetterBrown and 19 year old Ramell Jenkins roll through a stop sign and stopped their vehicle near W 9th St. and J St. The officers ran the vehicle’s VIN number which came back as stolen. All three subjects were detained and a loaded firearm was located inside the vehicle. Jenkins who was the driver admitted to “purchasing the vehicle” and found the gun in the trunk. He had been riding around with it ever since. All three subjects were booked and later transported to county jail on several felony charges.
  • On 5/4/16 at 5:45 pm, a 25 year old suspect carjacked a 1998 BMW in Bay Point and was last seen eastbound on Highway 4. An Antioch officer located the BMW on W 10th St. near Vern Roberts Cir. A pursuit ensued and ended in a traffic collision on E Leland Rd. and Loveridge Rd. The suspect fired at least two rounds at the officer striking him. Antioch officers returned fire. The suspect gave up and was taken into custody. The injured officer was treated at an area hospital and released a few hours later.
  • On 5/4/16 at 12:28 pm, a Contra Costa County Detective called dispatch and asked for Code 3 cover for a murder suspect who possibly barricaded himself inside of a house in the 900 block of Hawthorne Avenue. APD Officers arrived on scene and 44 year old Andre Villedrouin walked out of the house just after our arrival. Contra Costa Detectives took custody of Villedrouin.
  • On 5/4/16 at 5:40 am, 26 year old Joshua Clayton was contacted by officers on a suspicious vehicle call for service in the area of Roosevelt Ln. and Garrow Dr. A name check revealed he had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for his arrest. He was issued a new court date and released on a signed promise to appear.
  • On 5/3/16 at 5:33 pm, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by 21 year old Francisco Carrillo for several vehicle code violations in the area of Wilbur Ave. and Almond St. Carrillo displayed objective symptoms of intoxication and performed poorly on subsequent field sobriety tests. Carrillo was placed under arrest for DUI and transported to APD, where he refused to provide a blood or breath sample. A search warrant was obtained and a blood sample was obtained from Carrillo. Carrillo was later booked into county jail.
  • On 5/2/16 at 11:30 pm, 21 year old Jeff Clair was eastbound on Sycamore Dr. when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a city light pole on the south sidewalk of Peppertree Way. Clair was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation. Clair consented to a blood draw and was released pending further investigation. PG&E and the Corp Yard responded to deal with damaged light pole.
  • On 5/2/16 at 7:36 pm, officers were dispatched to Helmuth Ln. for a noise complaint. 34 year old David Sawyer was contacted at the residence and found to have a warrant for his arrest. He was arrested and booked at county jail.
  • On 5/2/16 at 6:48 pm, officers were dispatched to a possible fire in the field east of Canada Valley Rd. The source of the fire was determined to be a fully engulfed vehicle. Once the fire was extinguished officers were not able to locate a license plate or a VIN due to the heavy damage, but the vehicle appeared to be a newer model Dodge Magnum. A Contra Costa County Arson Investigator responded to the scene and the vehicle was towed from the field.
  • On 5/2/16 at 2:22 pm, the victim was walking to a family member’s house in the area C St. and W 10th St. when three vehicles confronted him at the intersection. Two male suspects got out of one of the vehicles and asked him where he was from. The victim only speaks Spanish and attempted to tell the suspects he is not a gang member. One of the subjects hit him in the head with a bat. The victim fled as the suspect fired shots at him. Suspects from another vehicle caught up to the victim has he ducked behind the front porch of a house. They fired two more shots. The victim was not hit by the gun fire. The victim was wearing a blue and black plaid shirt and believed the suspects thought he was a gang member. The vehicles were described as an older Mercedes, a black Ford Ranger, and a gray Honda. No other information available.
  • On 5/2/16 at 7:11 am, the clerk at Quik Stop on Tregallas Rd. called 911 after he observed 34 year old Thomas Williams and the female victim in an argument that resulted in the clerk and the female being shot by Williams. Officers arrived on scene and located the female deceased inside the store. The clerk sustained a nonlife threatening gunshot wound and was transported to a local area hospital. Officers located the suspect vehicle in the front parking of the police department where Williams was taken into custody. Detectives took over the investigation and Williams was booked into county jail on the charges of murder and attempted murder.
  • On 5/2/16 at 12:30 am, an officer on patrol in the area of A St. and E 16th St. located 31 year old Elvis Barajas walking in the middle of “A” St. Barajas was found to be heavily intoxicated and unable to care for himself. He was arrested and sent to county jail for a sobering period.
  • On 5/1/16 at 10:15 pm, the victim was walking to her vehicle in the 700 block of O St. when she was quickly approached by two male adults. One of the males put what she believed to be a firearm to her ribcage and demanded money. The victim removed cash from her purse and gave it to the males. The responsibles fled on foot north on O St. and she lost sight of them in the area of W 6th St. She never saw the firearm and gave limited descriptions of the responsibles.
  • On 5/1/16 at 8:00 pm, officers were dispatched to 1012 W. 8Th St. for a report of homeless in the vacant house. 35 year old Trent Hudson was contacted inside the home giving another homeless male a haircut. Hudson was found to be in possession of methamphetamine for personal use along with a glass pipe. Hudson was arrested and released on a signed promise to appear.
  • On 5/1/16 at 5:35 pm, an officer saw 24 year old James Yingling and 33 year old Jamie Cambra walking in front of Burger King on Mahogany Way. He ran Yingling’s name and discovered Yingling had two warrants in for his arrest. Both subjects were contacted and Cambra was also found to have a warrant. Yingling was booked at county jail and Cambra was released with a new court date.
  • On 5/1/16 at 11:34 am, officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Sycamore Dr. and Peppertree Way on a black primer Land Rover driven by Clinton Wilson. The vehicle is known to associate with subjects that loiter outside the tax preparation shop in the Quik Stop parking lot. Clinton had a suspended CDL and the vehicle was towed for 30 days. During a search of the vehicle, officers located a small amount of cocaine in the passenger door pocket with 20 year old Unishia Hyde’s wallet. She was cited for possession of a controlled substance and released on scene.
  • On 5/1/16 at 8:24 am, officers were dispatched to 515 W. 12th St. regarding a subject sleeping in the backyard. Officers contacted 47 year old Phillip Granado who was found to have a parolee-at-large warrant. Granado told officers he was in the backyard just “doing crank.” Officers located a small amount of methamphetamine on the ground next to Granado. He was arrested and sent to county jail.
  • On 4/30/16 at 9:13 pm, 57 year old Geri Pierce was intoxicated and causing a disturbance at the Shell station located at 2701 Hillcrest Ave. Pierce was arrested for public intoxication and transported to county jail.
  • On 4/30/16 at 7:34 pm, officers responded to the Amtrak station located at 800 W 1st St. on a report of homeless subjects sleeping near the tracks. Officers arrived and contacted 59 year old David Wise. Wise had a no bail felony warrant for his arrest. Wise was arrested without incident and booked into county jail.
  • On 4/30/16 at 6:32 pm, 28 year old Joseph Capurro came onto the property of the Don Brown Shelter located at 1401 W 4th St. and was asked to leave several times by staff members as he is not a resident. Officers arrived on scene and contacted Capurro who still refused to leave the property after being told several times by officers to leave. Capurro was taken into custody for trespassing and escorted off the property. Capurro refused to provide any personal information and refused to sign the citation. He was transported and booked into county jail.
  • On 4/30/16 at 4:40 pm, officers responded to the 4000 block of Lone Tree Way on a report of a vehicle having collided into a light pole and fire hydrant. The driver, 29
    year old Nick Alexander, attempted to flee but didn’t get very far as paramedics already on scene detained him until APD units arrived. Alexander displayed signs of intoxication and was transported to the hospital with injuries to his face. Alexander submitted to a blood draw and was later released pending further evaluation at the hospital.
  • On 4/30/16 at 1:31 pm, the victim/ employee reported she observed an adult male suspect stealing items inside Smart and Final. She attempted to stop suspect as he left the store. He ran towards a waiting get-away vehicle. A second adult male got out of the car and confronted the victim, pushing her way. Both male suspects got into the car with a female driver and fled the area. The victim was able to get a license plate and provided it to police. Officers were not able to locate the vehicle at that time, but the investigation is ongoing.
  • On 4/30/16 at 8:29 am, officers conducted special enforcement in the area of Big Lots and contacted 29 year old Del Smith. Smith was found to have a warrant for his arrest and was booked into county jail.
  • On 4/30/16 at 3:03 am, we received a report of a vehicle into a power pole with power lines on the ground at 1200 W. 8th St. It was reported the driver of the crashed vehicle fled on foot after the collision. Upon our arrival, we observed a black Lexus crashed into a power pole and several power, phone, and cable lines down in the street and on houses. The driver of the vehicle was in fact gone. We blocked the roadway off and stood by until PG&E could respond to shut the power off. After the power was turned off, a check of the vehicle’s registration revealed it was a vehicle an officer stopped earlier with 30 year old Antione Rice driving. Rice is on parole. VIPS were called in for traffic control and officers responded to the last known address for Rice but were unable to locate him.
  • On 4/30/16 at 12:42 am, an officer observed a Nissan traveling at a high rate of speed on William Reed. The vehicle traveled west onto Sycamore Dr. and drove west bound in the east bound lanes to pass another vehicle. The officer initiated a traffic stop and prior to stopping the driver, 30 year old James Gomez threw a bottle of Vodka from the vehicle. Gomez was contacted and found to be on felony formal probation for DUI. After several field tests, Gomez was arrested for DUI. Gomez’s probation indicated that he has to submit to a chemical test upon request and or when arrested for DUI. Gomez refused to provide a sample to Officers. Gomez was handcuffed in the jail and the blood tech was still unable to get a sample due to Gomez’s lack of cooperation. Officers were eventually able to get the sample. Gomez was immediately transported to county jail after. Gomez has more than 3 prior DUI convictions since 2010.
  • On 4/29/16 at 7:12 pm, an officer observed 25 year old Marquis Walker was urinating against a pillar in the Grocery Outlet parking lot located at 1818 A St. After Marquis was done urinating, he began to walk away with an unsteady gate. The officer contacted Marquis and noticed he showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol. When asked, Marquis advised he consumed three beers and two shots. He was arrested and transported to county jail for a sobering period.
  • On 4/29/16 at 7:41 am, citizens called police on 35 year old Cherylynda Pastor because she was inside a parked car at W 2nd and I St. “tweaking.” Upon arrival, police checked the plate and learned that it was reported stolen. Pastor was detained without incident, and admitted to driving the car. Pastor had a poor story about how she came into possession of the car, and she was booked into the county.
  • 4/29/16 at 5:49 am, 23 year old William Millard was contacted on a pedestrian stop in a known neighborhood for stolen vehicles. Millard had car dirt and grease all over his clothes and hands. Millard had a large bulge in his waistline and was using his hand to hold the item in place. Millard was advised to remove his hand from his waistline and a license plate fell to the ground. A check of the license plate revealed it belonged to an Audi registered in Antioch. The Audi’s owner was contacted and it was discovered the Audi was in fact an unreported stolen vehicle. Millard was also in possession of a screwdriver and shaved keys. Millard did not admit to the theft of the Audi. An extensive area check for the Audi in the immediate surrounds area was conducted with negative results at this time. Millard was transported to county jail and listed as a suspect in our stolen vehicle case.
  • On 4/28/16 at 10:28 pm, an officer observed a miniature dirt bike traveling south on Mokelumne Drive with the driver not wearing a helmet. He attempted a traffic stop on the dirt bike and the dirt bike did not yield. The officer pursued the dirt bike for .6 miles at speeds between 10-20MPH before he was terminated. The mini dirt bike then turned from a street surface onto a trail and was not located.
  • On 4/28/16 at 11:06 pm, the victim was parked at Dillard Way and Gentrytown Dr. “smoking weed” when he was approached on his passenger side by a male holding a gun. The male stated “give me everything you got”. The victim got scared and fled from the vehicle leaving his keys in the ignition. He eventually called 911 and stated he was carjacked. We responded to the location where he described the incident and found his car and keys still at the location. There was no take and the suspect was not located. The victim’s vehicle was returned to him.
  • On 4/28/16 at 6:09 pm, the victim was working inside a retail store located in the 2900 block of Delta Fair Blvd. and was the only employee working when two subjects, a male and female, entered the store. The victim stated that the male began asking questions about jeans the store had for sale selected one pair of pants. The male handed the pair of pants to the female and then asked the victim about some different pants as the female began to walk towards the front of the store. The victim stated the male was trying to distract him as the female placed the jeans into a Foot Locker bag and began to walk out of the store. When the female exited through the front door of the store, the security alarm sounded. The male and female fled and began to get into a white vehicle while the victim told them to stop. When the victim tried to take a photo of the vehicle’s license plate, the male grabbed the victim from behind placing him into a choke hold. He told the victim that no one stole anything and released the victim. The male then entered the passenger side of the vehicle and they drove away. The victim was not injured and was able to provide a partial plate of the suspect’s vehicle.
