Next month, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors will decide whether to join a Community Choice Energy program like Marin Clean Energy (MCE) or East Bay Community Energy (EBCE).
This decision would affect county residents in unincorporated areas and would also serve as a model for cities like Oakley, Brentwood, Antioch, San Ramon and Danville.
Supervisor Burgis wishes to offer the public an opportunity to learn more about Community Choice Energy and provide input before a decision is made.

What’s Community Choice Energy?
A Community Choice Energy program would pool consumer electricity demand within our region. The existing energy utility (PG&E) would remain responsible for transmission, distribution, and billing. Meanwhile, a public entity run by cities and counties, either Marin Clean Energy or East Bay Community Energy, would be responsible for electricity purchasing and generation.
Community Choice Energy providers, like MCE and EBCE, give consumers an option that could increase local renewable energy generation, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and bring additional jobs to the county, all while maintaining or reducing electricity rates.
