Here is a brief look at tonight’s city council meetings in Antioch, Brentwood and Oakley.  Below will highlight some of the interesting topics I’ve pulled from each city’s agenda. By far, the most interesting topic will be Antioch Police Chief Allan Cantando’s crime statistics report which shows crime is down.

Antioch:

  • The Antioch City Council will receive a presentation from Antioch Police Chief Allan Cantando regarding Police Statistics for Quarter 1 which show crime is actually down.
  • Council will likely award a $137,500 contract to Leathers and Associates, Inc. to rebuild a portion of the Tot Lot Playground at City Park.  The $25,000 deductible was raised through Take Back Antioch, Assemblyman Jim Frazier and PG&E.

Brentwood

  • Consider accepting a recommendation from the Arts Commission to direct staff to proceed with agreements with four artists to create marquettes for the Balfour Road Public Art Project at a cost of $2,000 per artist ($8,000 total).
  • Discussion of General Plan Update Working Group Activities – from what I am hearing, there is some interesting topics including one member being adamant about getting Brentwood to begin talks about starting up its own Fire Dept.  Truth is, even if they wanted to, Brentwood could still not exist without outside assistance.

Oakley

  • Cecelia Nichols-Fritzler will provide a Strategic Plan Update-Economic Development. In my personal opinion, this 13-page document is not nearly as updated or detailed as it should be as it leaves a lot of statements open to interpretation.  The presentation hopefully clears up the cloudiness of this report.
  • The council will look at establishing and updating a variety of city fees for planning, public works, police and general administrative services.
  • Consideration of a You, Me, We = Oakley artwork to be placed within the Downtown Oakley Plaza. Personally speaking, if the council chooses this site, it should be open to all other non-profits to also provide artwork to ensure favoritism is not given to one group vs. another. A better location may be a local city park and not in the downtown area.   On a side note, the grant nor grant award letter were excluded from the staff report.

The last time that the City of Brentwood attempted to have their own professional fire department, they almost bankrupted the city. I would be very curious as to how they would present this to the citizens of Brentwood. They would have to have some sort of additional revenue source to fund it, i.e. a tax! And I believe that LAFCO has already told them no, hell no.

Oakley has gotten away with providing as little information as possible for years because residents are not paying attention. I also read that report and you raise very good points which questions should be asked in nearly every statement. But they will ignore it because they don’t really care about providing information, they simply want to move onto the next boondoggle.

I can’t wait for the crime is down why do we need a tax debate to begin in Antioch. Brentwood has no business starting a fire department and its a complete waste of everyone’s time. Let it go already and support what you do have in place. As for Oakley, good luck with that burk lol

I would like to know who on the Planning Commission is bringing this fire department talk up Joel bryant is currently on the fire board and steve barr was on the fire board they should be educating these people on why it cannot happen. This is sabotage on whatever solution eccfpd may elect to move forward with if bretnwood is discussing its own department I think its fair we ask who it is
