Be sure to plan for a night out to dinner on April 17 at Chili’s in Antioch as the Antioch Police Department will be supporting the Special Olympics of Northern California with its “Tip-A-Cop” event from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.

According to Antioch Police Chief Allan Cantando, he is expecting 5-10 officers to join him as “celebrity” waiters at this event. He is also expecting other local leaders to be on hand in support.

“I like to come out and meet with the community at different venues. Seeing our public support various charities, it shows me how the people of Antioch are extremely generous. I like to see my officers give back and volunteer to the community and meet the community. We are raising money for a very worthwhile charity,” said Cantando.

The April 17 event at Chili’s is one of two events each year the Antioch Police—the other is typically at Uno Chicago Grill.

The officers will be paired up with a server and are asking you first tip your server, but anything left over they would like to tip the officer to help raise money for the Special Olympics—100% of those donations go to the cause.

The chief himself says he has participated in these types of fundraisers for about 10-years now. These events raise on average between $1,500 to $2,000. The chief is optimistic they can raise more.

“There is amazing generosity at these events. I’ve seen anywhere from $1 to $100 given,” said Cantando.

The event will raise money for the expected 16,000 Northern California Special Olympic athletes.
