Antioch Unified to Close Schools on Friday

by ECT
Antioch Unified School District

The following message was released by the Antioch Unified School District:

Good afternoon,

This is an important safety announcement from the Antioch Unified School District. As you are most likely aware, our District –along with neighboring districts, has been monitoring the air quality daily to determine whether the air quality poses a significant health risk to our students and staff.

Since Tuesday, our schools implemented rainy day schedules to ensure students were not exposed to prolonged, strenuous, outside activity as recommended by the health advisories. While we cannot say that tomorrow’s air quality will be any better or worse, the schools in the Antioch Unified School District will be closed tomorrow. This decision was due in large part not to the air quality of any single day, but due to the amount of time the air-quality has remained in the unhealthy range. Please know that this decision was extremely difficult. However, the safety of our students and staff is our number one priority.

Thank you as always for your continued patience and understanding as we work to ensure our students and staff are as protected as possible. As always, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s school should you have any questions, etc.

Thank you,
Stephanie Anello
Superintendent

These kids will be out in this air quality all day now. They are better off being forced to stay inside the classroom.
