Picture 012

Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Crews rushed to a Sunday evening crash to free two female victims trapped after a crash put them on the center median on James Donlon Blvd. near Nightingale Drive in Antioch.

The incident occurred at 5:43 pm which shut down both directions on James Donlon for about an hour as crews from Rescue 382, Quint 183, Engine 82 worked diligently to free the victims. The Antioch Police Department did a nice job on crowd control while using vehicles to block the road to allow crews to work.

The first female was extracted in about 10-15 minutes while the second female victim required much more work as hydraulic tools were used for extraction. Both were transported to a nearby hospital via ambulance and their status is unknown at this time.

According to Battalion Chief Bob Atlas, he did confirm on scene that both victims were alive when transported; however, we do not have an updated status at this time.   The cause of the accident is still not clear or confirmed, however, speeding was suspected.

Note:
The Antioch Police Department, American Medical Response, and Contra Costa County Fire Protection District worked the scene. Meanwhile, major kudos to the fire crews for working fast to extract the victims, upon completion of the incident, the crowd that gathered showed their appreciation to all crews on scene with a round of applause for a job well done.

Editors Note: The photographs below have been edited to blur out the victims face.

OMG that is one scary accident. How that woman is alive I have no idea. Great shots and I applaud you again for all your hard work. James Donlon is a speedway and wish they could find a way to slow cars down on that road.

Too much speed and too many wrecks on this road. With all those flowers marking deaths along the road you would think people would get the point. I know the state said we had to raise the speed limit but that was asinine.
