Antioch: Two Children Sent to Hospital in 2-Alarm Fire, 10 Units Damaged

by ECT

At 1:32 pm Tuesday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters were dispatched to a report of a commercial structure fire in the 260 block of Carlton Lane off Buchanan Road in the City of Antioch.

Upon dispatch, units on Highway 4 immediately stated smoke was showing and upgraded the incident to a working fire. Units arrived on scene and reported at least two units fully involved and upgraded the response to a second alarm.

According to fire officials, at least two children were taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation, but they were expected to be okay.

The fire shut down both directions of Buchanan Road between San Jose Drive and Mission Drive.

In one apartment, a firefighter assisted a resident who pulled out a flag from his fathers who fought in the Vietnam War along with his mothers ashes.

This was the third major fire of the day for the District as they also battled fires in Pittsburg and Concord.

Check back for more details as CONFIRE is still investigating the cause.

I live in this complex, but down a few streets. This was too close to home and a reality check on how easily everything can be gone in minutes, and it brought forward to me the fires in Santa Rosa and Napa. Something that people thought a fire taking out a whole community or city that doesn’t happen oh yes it does. Prayers for the people who are out of their homes. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for to the ? fighters and police who work everyday for our safety. It’s times like we are having when you think. Umm no don’t close those ? stations we need them. These guys don’t know for every call are they and their team coming out ok and going home to family. We all need to really show these guys our support. Thank you for your service to our community everyday.
