On Thursday afternoon, Contra Costa County Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire in Antioch that damaged two homes and two outbuildings.

Firefighters originally were dispatched to a vegetation fire just after 3:00 pm on Alpha Way. Upon arrival, they located an out building on fire. They quickly called for a residential fire response and by 3:19 pm called for a second alarm response to the 2000 block of Crestwood Drive as they confirmed a home was on fire.

Antioch Police assisted firefighters in helping residents out of their homes and locating animals. One officer stated a woman would not leave her home without the dog so he had to track it down.

According to Robert Marshall, spokesperson for Contra Costa Fire, the fire burned 1.1 acres with four total structures involved, including 1 home that had an attic fire while another home suffered from exterior damage. Two outbuildings were completely destroyed.

The total damage is being estimated at $200,000.

Marshall said that 1 man and a child along with their 4 dogs were displaced, and are being assisted by the Red Cross. There weres no injuries reported.

Assisting the Contra Costa Fire was all three East Contra Costa Fire Protection District Engines and additional units were released from wild land training at the “Antioch Bowl” off Canada Valley and Vista Grande.

The official cause of the fire has not yet been released by CONFIRE, however, several residents claimed it was from a nearby homeless encampment.
