Antioch: Suspicious Device Causes Downtown Apartment Complex to be Evacuated

At approximately 10:45 AM, Antioch Police began blocking off a portion of downtown Antioch after a suspicious item was discovered that appeared to be an explosive device.

The discovery let Antioch PD to evacuate and inspect an 8-unit apartment building on West 3rd Street and surrounding homes. All traffic along W. 2nd Street was also blocked off as a precaution.

The Walnut Creek Bomb Squad was called to the scene and was able to render the device inoperable. Per the bomb squad, the device was capable of being detonated. Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and PG&E were also on scene as a precaution.

Residents were allowed back into their homes by 1:30 pm after it was deemed safe.

The Antioch Police Department is handling the investigation. At this time, we have no leads as to a motive or who may be responsible for creating/placing the device.

Sometimes the people in my city make me so mad. This is flat out ridiculous. God bless Antioch and Walnut Creek PD for today and keeping us all safe.

Antioch makes Richmond look like Danvile compared to the amount of crazy murderous people we have.
