Antioch Seeks Input on Permanent Commercial Cannabis Ordinance

by ECT

The City of Antioch has announced it is working on developing a permanent commercial cannabis ordinance and is seeking input from the community through a survey and public workshops.

Antioch, who has taken up the issue a number of times since 2016, has essentially kicked the can down the road with an extension of a temporary ban in place on marijuana cultivation, dispensaries and deliverers, however, it now must make a decision on what its ordinance will be.

According to the City website, the first reading of the permanent ordinance before the City Council is expected to occur at the Council’s May 22, 2018 meeting with the process to be concluded by the Council’s regularly scheduled meeting on June 26th.

The City has put out a survey to seek input from residents. The questions include:

  1. Medical Cultivation
  2. Medical Manufacturing
  3. Medical Testing
  4. Medical Dispensaries
  5. Medical Delivery Only
  6. Adult Use Commercial Cultivation
  7. Adult Use Commercial Manufacturing
  8. Adult Use Commercial Testing
  9. Adult Use Commercial Retail Sales
  10. Adult Use Commercial Delivery Only

In each question, you are being asked whether or not you: Strongly Oppose, Oppose, Neutral, Support or Strongly Support.

The next Special City Council Meeting/Workshops to learn about Prop 64, ask questions, and how this use will be allowed in Antioch will be held on May 5 at 9:00 a.m. at the Nick Rodriguez Community Center Agenda & Presentation

Currently in East Contra Costa County, the cities of Brentwood and Pittsburg with also have a prohibition of marijuana cultivation, dispensaries and deliveries within city limits. Meanwhile, Oakley has a similar ordinance, however they opted to allow deliveries within city limits.
