Antioch: Search for Suspect Prompts Lockdown at Antioch High School

by ECT
At about 1212 PM, a Deputy Sheriff from the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff Warrant Services Unit and Deputy U.S. Marshals were in the area of E St. and 18th Street in Antioch when they were advised about a wanted subject.
They attempted to contact the subject, who fled on foot. A perimeter was set up with the assistance of nearby law enforcement agencies. Several schools in the area were placed on lockdown including Antioch High School and Antioch Middle School.

Police from Antioch, Oakley and the Sheriffs Office quickly established a perimeter around Antioch High School with officers on campus as a precaution–no students were injured or in danger during the search.
According to a source, the suspect was a high-risk subject but they did not elaborate further.

The subject was found hiding in the yard of a residence on W. 15th Street. The 17-year-old, who had a an arrest warrant, was taken into custody without incident. He was later booked at juvenile hall.

Although a firearm and drugs were located in the backyard, police were still investigating to see if it was linked to today’s incident according to Jimmy Lee, Director of Public Affairs for the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff.

The lockdown at Antioch High School was lifted around 1:00 pm. No further information was provided.

Antioch Police Chief Allan Cantando posted the following message via social media:

Today at approximately 12:15 P.M. the Antioch Police Department received an outside assist call from the U.S. Marshalls Fugitive Apprehension Team to immediately help locate a wanted subject who had just fled on foot from their officers onto the Antioch High School campus.

Antioch Police Department quickly notified school staff and requested a “lock down” of the campus. I want to commend AUSD Superintendent Don Gill and Antioch High School Principal Louie Rocha for immediately responding to our request and keeping our students safe.

After approximately 35 minutes of searching the area, a subject was taken into custody and the “lock down” was lifted without further incident.

I want to also thank the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Department, Pittsburg Police Department, Oakley Police Department, Brentwood Police Department, and the Concord Police Department for their response and assistance to this arrest.

Sincerely,

Chief Allan Cantando

So, Mr. Brown, how does one get the parents of these little monsters actually parent? If you can’t get them to parent, how do you reach the kids before they go completely sideways? I keep thinking education all around, but I’m just an old white guy.

A serious question for a serious situation that doesn’t seem to be getting any better.

Do we really want police running around residential neighborhoods with full auto rifles??
I’m all for getting the bad guys off the streets but not an advocate of employing a weapon that will shoot through several walls of someones house to chase some punk kid down.

We should take away those darn rifles from the good guys and give them foam sticks. Of course, the bad guys can always keep their assault weapons right? Better yet, let’s just advocate having cops hand over their shotguns and rifles to the criminals.

RJB,
You’re right. Heck, lets just have the police roll through our neighborhoods in Humvee’s with 50 cal mini guns on them and mow the perps down. Want to watch TV without having to worry about bullets flying through the living room wall? Move to Lafayette.

With all due respect, Bosh. You really make no sense. Which, by the way, was the crux of my post. Obviously, it was missed.
