Antioch: Safety Awareness and Egg Hunt Event a Hit

by ECT

On Saturday March 28, a Child Safety Fair and Egg Hunt event was held at Habour Park in Antioch which offered a variety of activities for youths ages 3-12.

IMG_9763The event was created by Antioch School Board Trustee Debra Vinson who put on the event to show the community that people do care.

“As a School Board Trustee, I want children and families to know that I care and that I am concerned about their children’s safety too. Safety is important to this community and I want to give parents resources and tools to help them keep their children safe,” said Vinson. “I also wanted to give parents Safety kits and ID cards.”

IMG_9758 Vinson says the event was a success because youths were able to attend the event in the park and run around without having to worry about anything other than having fun. They also received educational material and treats.

She stated the event would not have been possible without the assistance of the Contra Costa Building ‘Trades, the IBEW Local 302 and the Carpenters Local 152.

“Many non-profit agencies were very happy to see me do a Safety Fair because the money and resources are challenging for them and I wanted it to be fun for the children so I combined it with an Egg Hunt.

“To see the families sitting in the grass with their children and baskets was a wonderful sight. Many families thanked me and smiled as they watched their children, play games, win prizes and have fun at the Egg Hunts,” said Vinson. “The Wave Mission Team was awesome and they also made it possible to hold the event. They came on board immediately when they learned I was hosting a Safety Fair. ”

The event featured activities such as a jumpy, face painting, egg hunts, three legged races, bag races, and egg races.

Looked like a nice event but very small. Why didn’t Antioch step in and make this event bigger than it was? Could have been huge with the easter egg hunt. Good job Debra Vinson. Nice to see someone on the AUSD Board do something for the community.
