The Antioch City Council will receive a presentation from Police Chief Allan Cantando on Tuesday which will highlight that overall crime in the First Quarter of 2014 is up 2.8 % while violent crime is down 11.6%.
According to the statistics provided in the staff report that when compared to the same time period last year, Antioch reported no homicides while robbery was down 24.7%. Rape in Antioch has seen an increase by 200% jumping from 4 cases last year to 12 this year.
Burglary in Antioch has seen an increase of 3.1% with 365 cases in the first three months of the year—an increase of 11. Meanwhile theft is down by 2.2%. Auto theft saw a 28.7% increase with 269 total cases.
Between January through March, Antioch made a total of 988 arrests which was an increase of 10.3% from last year.
Antioch received a total of 18,767 calls for service which is down 1% from the same period last year while Priority 1 calls are down 10%.
The time a call was received to officer arrival continued to decrease for the third straight year in quarter 1. In 2012, the average receive to arrival was 11:04 minutes while today they are now at 10:12 minutes.
Traffic accidents with injury in Quarter 1 are up 52.6% with a total of 58 accidents with injury compared to 38 at this point last year. DUI (misdemeanor) is up 15.4% with 60 total incidents. Overall, traffic incidents are up 18.1%.
In speaking with Antioch Police Chief Allan Cantando late Thursday night, he could not get into specifics about the stats because his presentation is on Tuesday to the Antioch City Council, however, he did say continuing to hire police officers is a priority.
Cantando did admit that it’s a fair assessment to say that due to crime being greatly reduced in 2013 that those figures are now leveling off due to police staffing.
One change in the presentation is that the Police Department has removed the line-item entitled “allocated” staffing which was at 102-positions and have simply moved to “Authorized Sworn Positions”.
Here is a look at the current staffing of the Police Department
The full report will be presented to the Antioch City Council on Tuesday April 22.

What!? This can’t be true. Mayor Harper said voting for measure C will magically eliminate crime in Antioch. Essentially, good tax paying residents would have to pay more and the crime magically goes away. Did he forget to sprinkle the fairy dust over Antioch? He must have missed a couple areas.
OMG you hit the nail on the head everytime! We should start a Antioch Reality check group. Nobody votes unless they get a reality check from a group of us realist fist.
Thanks for the compliment =)
We changed the terminology to fix all the problems. Another slight of hand folks. Duran and Harper are getting better and better.
MY PLAN IS WORKING….
Now lets see Aprils. How many homicides this month?
