The Antioch Police Department announced promotions of Tammany Brooks and Tony Morefield Wednesday afternoon during a ceremony.

Tammany Brooks was promoted to Captain and Tony Morefield was promoted to Lieutenant.

Police Chief Allan Cantando says that these promotions represent rewarding successful performance and succession planning within the Police Department saying the two promoted today will be the future of the department when some of us retire.

“I was off for the last 5 weeks on medical and one of the things that hit me really hard was that I hope I was missed a little bit, but I realize the department did not skip a beat,” said Cantando. “It was like I wasn’t even here. It was really saddening for my part, but it was comforting to note that when one of us leaves that one of us is going to step up and take over.”

Captain Brooks Bio:

  • Hired in July 1995 as a police trainee and sworn in as a police officer in December 1995. He worked as a police officer in community policing between 1995-2001, transferred to investigation and promoted as Corporal in 2002. He was then promoted to Sargent in May 2005 and promoted April 2012 to Lieutenant. Finally, July 20, 2014 he was promoted to Captain (Field Services)

Lieutenant Morefield Bio:

  • Hired in Jan 2001 as a police trainee and sworn in as police officer in May 2001. He worked as a police officer in community policing May, 2001 to Aug. 2001 where he was assigned to SWAT team and assigned as field training officer and defensive tactics training officer. He transferred into investigations in 2004 where he worked a variety of cases. He was promoted to Sergeant in July 2007 (made the jump from Officer to Sergeant—skipping Corporal) and became SWAT supervisor while being Officer of the Year in 2007. Transferred into investigations in 2012 and promoted to Lieutenant July 2014.

Lieutenant Morefield explained that he takes great pride in the name of the Antioch Police Department and that he was proud to be a part of a great team.

“There is great pride in the name of the Antioch Police Department. I look at the people I get to work with from officers to dispatchers , community services officers, animal services officers, clerical staff, our volunteers, I see excellence every day because we do a lot of work,” said Morefield. “I am proud of everyone I get to work with and I am proud I get to call myself a police officer.”

Captain Brooks shared that after 19-years with the Department, he still loves coming to work each day.

He thanked multiple people, including Tom Furman, who he explained was the unfortunate recipient of a young and eager wannabe police officer who bugged him tirelessly to give out what it would take to get hired on in Antioch.  He thanked Furman in helping him and guiding him during his career.

“I have worked here for 19-years and I still love coming to work here. I could not be more proud,” said Brooks. “This is a phenomenal organization with phenomenal people. I feel truly blessed to be a leader in this organization.”

Brooks is the best! I’m happy to hear he has been promoted to Captain. Why can’t we get people like Brooks to manage the City of Antioch?
