Good Work, any news in the positive direction in crime reduction is a pulse. Response time is horrible! Better response time from APD will immediately effect every crime statistic listed above. More importantly the public would really appreciate it.

Question: As far as actual man power on the street. How much better is Antioch PD today compared to the last couple years?

I understand APD has added a few new Officers over the last year or so, but adding 1 to 3 Officers is futile when fitting attrition. Honestly a recruit class of 10-15 Officers hitting the streets of Antioch would create a huge impact in fighting crime. The kind of huge impact the people in the City of Antioch are looking for. Not to mention that every crime statistics, that the City of Antioch published would improve exponentially.

J Salazar. @ to answer your question about manpower on the street. In the early 1990s APD had approx 85-90 sworn officers. APD peeked with about 120 officers in about 2007 or 2008. Now they are back down to 90. They will continue to lose officers at the rate that they fill them. This is an unfortunately cycle. Dont know if Antioch will ever climb out of the toilet

Yes it is a cycle we are going through. The older officers are tired of it and want out. Unfortunately we did not see the writing on the wall and start recruiting 2 years before since it takes so long to post, hire and train an officer. We had the money because they certainly found money for other things. The money was in the budget for x amount of officers on the force period. Now if they will only hire a lot of CSO’s and get officers on the street.

Most of the older officers are long gone. The police department saw the writing on The wall but unfortunately were not able to hire. CSOs are a great asset and unfortunately they were the first to go. You have to balance hiring CSOs and officers. The city is in a bad spot and I think it it past the point of no return. You drive around the city and see nothing but trash in the gutters and people loitering. Romis liquors looks like it was picked up out of Oakland and dropped in Antioch. You see nothing but 4-6 dope dealers posted up selling their product. This type of activity has become accepted by the citizens and government officials. The city is 60 officers short from what ois needed to start the turn around. There is no incentive to live in Antioch. The crime rate is ridiculous, the city has no businesses and the schools suck. As my screen name says “Where did Antioch go wrong.”
