Antioch Police Investigating Robbery, Homicide and Officer Involved Shooting

by ECT

On July 3 at approximately 8:26 pm, a robbery/homicide occurred at the corner of Hillcrest Avenue and E. 18th Street at the Valero Gas Station.

Although police have yet to confirm, initial indications are that the store clerk was killed by the suspect. According to witnesses, at the time of the robbery/homicide, an Antioch Police officer was at 7-Eleven across the street and spotted the suspect and gave chase.

An officer involved shooting involving an Antioch Police Department patrol officer occurred at the scene of the robbery/homicide. However, police say the homicide occurred prior to when they arrived on scene and the homicide was not a result of the officer involved shooting.

The suspect apparently fled to a nearby neighborhood where police positioned themselves for an extended search in the area of Blossom Drive and Parsons Lane off E 18th.

It’s unclear if the Police have the suspect in custody.

The Antioch Police Department and the Contra Costa County Office of the District Attorney are currently investigating the incident and due to it being in the early stages, no further information was released.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Antioch Police Department non emergency line at (925)778-2441. You may also text-a- tip to 274637 (CRIMES) using the key word ANTIOCH.

More wasted tax dollars on this POS GETTING “3 HOTS & a COT”. Cheaper to just euthanize him like the animal he is. Wouldnt be Oakland eeerrr Antioch without a shooting.

Hearing the clerk was killed is heartbreaking. Prayers to the family. Hopefully justice will be served.

Hopefully the POS dies succumbs from his wounds that way we honest civilians don’t have to pick his tab for prison.

Can somebody translate this to English? Sorry, I don’t speak Ebonics. Just plain ignant yo.

kb Jul 4, 2017 - 2:24 pm

In order to read that all you needed was to speak English. If you couldn’t read that then may your the “ignant” one “yo”.

As a customer for many years of this station, I’m sad to hear that this is the fate of one of those clerks. All of them were always nice to me, and I am sadden to hear this. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Funny that you are giving input on English, but you used your instead of you’re.

Fail yo. Dis be crazy.

My thoughts exactly! Written by someone who obviously does not have a familiarity with English composition.

More of this is happening in ANTIOCH thanks to the Section 8 losers and ghetto hood rats. You don’t hear of anything like this happening in Danville or Orinda or Sunnyvale! Antioch used to be a great town until the Oakland and Richmond crap was moved here at the urging of that great County Supervisor Federal Something (and what idiot parent would name their kid “Federal?”)

True.

It is a crime that the people of antioch are left wondering what happened last night at the gas station on the corner of Hillcrest & 18th St. because the police “aren’t releasing any more information” about the case!

I happen to live in the neighborhood where this took place. I get gas at this station on a regular basis, I know the people who own and operate it. In broad daylight one of them is robbed and killed, leaving the suspect at large running through the streets near my house…and we don’t get a description or the whereabouts of this armed person even by the next morning? Thanks APD! Late last night as I went to bed every street near my house was blocked off and at least 30 patrol cars were positioned along them with lights blaring…and the news still says little about what happened!

I’m concerned about the crime in our city just as most people are, but I am just as concerned about the way it isn’t reported to people who possibly stand in harms way when it happens! This is where the police scanner used to help the people of this city determine their safety during crimes that affect residents nearby. Instead we are expected to wait days or weeks for the police to update THEIR online reports to find out what happened outside our door. Shame on the city for keeping its citizens in the dark!

The time has come for us all to demand that our PUBLIC officials and these PUBLIC servants make important information broadcast over PUBLIC airwaves available to THE PUBLIC…instead of hiding in secrecy behind encrypted communications and mediocre attempts to provide real time news!

According to the U.S. Constitution and our founding fathers, THAT is a crime against us all.

Who agrees with me?

Lola Saavedra Jul 4, 2017 - 9:45 pm

Bullitt, I agree with you wholeheartedly! I understand that the person who was killed is the owner of the gas station as the clerk had the evening off. Also, the perpetrator was found dead .. possibly dying from the wounds he got from the officer who was at the 7-11.

As to getting information via the police scanner, a potential criminal can also get that information. For example, I called the police to report an active burglary at one of my neighbor’s houses … I guess the culprit had a scanner and heard that information and high-tailed it out of that house before the police got there. They would have caught him if he didn’t have a police scanner.

hanna Jul 4, 2017 - 11:42 pm

Agreed. I live nearby too. Don’t know if the perp was near the house, don’t even know how many perps there were. APD is spending millions on the equipment to scramble the transmission, instead of on more cops. Enough voters were tricked by the previous city council to vote in measure c, we were promised more cops. Instead our taxes are going for more secrecy and we are in danger being kept in the dark. Not what this country was based on, agree with you 100%.

Agree I thought we were getting more police as that is what we need not technology we need boots on the ground! Is there any hope for Antioch? After 40+ years I am thinking of moving although I don’t want to as I love my little house, but it is not the great place that we all moved too many years ago yes Federal Glover who was a long time Pittsburg resident who decided we needed more families I think to fill up DeerValley School so he increased section 8 homes beyond what was necessary not in Pittsburg, Oakley or .Brentwood but Antioch. Shame on him! But I am sure there were many more people that was behind him! We haven’t had decent leadership in last 15 years. We all received Federal money or
State money to improve our towns Oakley, Pittsburg and Brentwood used their money wisely and improved their towns. We have the most beautiful waterfront views that we were suppose to make downtown a beautiful venue for new bussissness to come in. I know I started a small business with my daughter in law but not one thing improved. Sadly because of health reasons we had to close as it wasn’t making any money. My kids were raised here so I have many great memories of Belshaw & Mno Grant?‼️ Sadly none of my children live here now. They did not want to raise their children in this town. I live in a tiny 900 sq foot home, yet the people on section 8 all have nicer homes than the working class, nicer cars, clothes, kids don’t pay for lunches etc. we have to end entitlements that allow non working people to have better homes and choices of those that have worked all their life’s. Time to take our town back!

Not all section 8 are bad people, the o es that we are talking about are the lifers who live off of the governments dime their entire life and feel entitled. If you want to be useless, then I suggest you find another place to do it! A lot of us who grew up here and who saw this town turn into a shithole because of all of these government lifers that they let move in her to try to get them out of the hoods they lived in. They tried to give these people a chance and all they did is screw up our neighborhoods and the areas that they came from started to prosper! What does that tell you? It tells me that neighborhoods are better off without you!
