UPDATE 2
Antioch PD announced an arrest Tuesday. Suspect identified as Lawrence Phipps, 24 of Antioch.

The damages were discovered as early as Sunday along 2nd street, as well as 3rd Street along G Street as Code Enforcement worked the downtown area to clean off spray painted racist messages–including multiple swastikas.

In total, more than 20 business and multiple vehicles (including city vehicles) were hit with spray paint as code enforcement was working to clean the damages.

Pastor Eugene Jackson Church of God Holy on W 3rd Street was hit with swastikas and “bitches” were over the swastikas.

“We just bought this building, we have been in the city for 16 years. What has been so disheartening, I know about the racial legacy and history of racism, especially with black churches. They have been burned, bombed, and black people have been killed. And to see those swastikas as racial hatred and bigotry is the first thing that came to my mind,” said Jackson. “We don’t want to spread hatred, we want people to know racial hatred still exists which is why they have not yet been covered up.”

Antioch Police have not responded to requests for additional information, but did post the following to Facebook:

Over this past weekend, our downtown area was heavily damaged by vandals. Numerous businesses and vehicles were defaced with offensive words and symbols. This criminal behavior is not reflective of our community or our beliefs. As a police department, we are aggressively investigating these crimes. As members of this community, we are saddened and disappointed. Clean-up has already begun and we are now reaching out to our community to help us in identifying the responsible(s). If you have any information that will assist us in our investigation, please contact our Dispatch Center at (925) 778-2441.

Looks like punk ass kids with loser parents if any.

He looks like an adult to me. I have seen kids with great parents go bad. It doesn’t make sense to just automatically blame the parents, especially when you know NOTHING about this criminal. He could also have mental health issues. Getting the FACTS is SO important.

Did you not see the pictures of the suspect? He’s black. This was obviously an attempt to stir up racial tensions

Black men commit a disproportionate amount of crime. This isn’t breaking news.

It’s sad that the swastika has been taken over by racist losers. A beautiful and ancient symbol of peace, distorted by the evil of man. And they don’t even do it right most of the time.

I left Antioch in 2015 when housing was, threw the roof. Made some cash went to Vallejo ca.. people said why Vallejo it’s worse then Antioch.. I said nope. Not at,all
Keep in mind I was a 18 year resident in rivertown.. enjoyed every minute of it ..
But sec..8 and drugs and killings and people
Just running a muck screwed..that town up ..
I miss that town miss A street . Miss the snow cone shack . Remember sweet country bbq…with there garbage plate..yummy
Solar block window tint..always hooked my car up right .. they were on the corner of A,street by the park… I hope Antioch could.someday be the town I remember ..
And had pride in … I played ball for many many many years in the Antioch adult league that was,at spartin..middle..school then moved to the new community center…
Made alot of friends there and we didn’t see the racial way it is there now… God bless the days of old…

My great grandparents arrived in Antioch in the early 1950’s and say it was awesome then. It was even better in the late 1950’s and 1960’s … then in late 1970’s, it started going downhill and rapidly thereafter. Today, they say, it’s unrecognizable. Poor city management! Too much construction. Absentee landlords! Businesses deteriorating. Lack of upkeep of properties …. SECTION 8 and the arrival of the criminal element from that city which the airport just ruined Antioch and it’s a shame!
