by ECT

At around 1:20 pm Thursday, a vegetation fire broke out on Golf Course Road at Cache Peak Drive in the City of Antioch which threatened several homes.

Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Firefighters along with Antioch Police shut down the roadway as crews worked the incident.

According to Battalion Chief Bob Atlas, the fire started off small but quickly spread due to the heat and dry vegetation. The fire was started after a worker was mowing vegetation. The fire was estimated to be around 2-acres.

With the fire moving quickly towards homes, firefighters and police rushed to structure protection along Matterhorn Court, police officers even pulled hoses at homes to put water on the fence lines.

No injuries were reported.

First, wasnt yesterday a ” spare the air day” , why was he operating a mower then? Also, its already the end of July, why arent the properties being maintained in early spring? Theres dry grass all over this city, peoples yards, etc and the City does NOTHING about it.

Dry vegetation in front and back yards of private residences should not be reported to the City but to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District at (925) 941-3300 …… Call that number and leave a message giving your number for a call back and also the address of property which is in violation. One of the people from the District will call you within 24 hours and get more information from you.
