Antioch Police Chief Issues Statement on Kidnapping

by ECT

Antioch PD 1a

Tonight the City of Antioch experienced one of its greatest fears, a kidnapping of a 7 year old child.

As I arrived at the Police Station I saw the men and women of this department in conjunction with the FBI, diligently working leads, gathering information, and coordinating this investigation.

Within a relatively short amount of time, investigators developed a suspect (David Douglas). Within the hour, Douglas was in custody and the brave 7 year old girl was safe in police custody.

I am so proud of the ability, work ethic, and dedication of the men and women who work for Antioch PD. As a resident, I am comforted by the abilities of our officers because they are true professionals in every sense of the word.

As I stood in the foyer of the police department with a few of our amazing officers, I had the pleasure of telling the parents their daughter was safe and the suspect was in custody. It was an emotional moment for all of us.

Sincerely,

Chief Allan Cantando

I’ve read several accounts that is was a brave women who alerted the officers by honking her car horn and because of her efforts and quick thinking, she was the reason this child was found so fast. While I give your officer a lot of credit, I don’t believe they get “all” the credit for this case!
Thank You.

Cheryl,
That women is not telling the truth. Let’s stop that rumor right away. She just sought media attention after the fact. APD found the vehicle based on stellar police work. It is a shame this “woman” is trying to create false attention.

Very important factor here. They got the word out quickly. People paid attention to their surroundings, acted on what they saw and called the police to take action. Good going Antioch Police Department. And thank you East County Today for putting all over Face Book.

Is he the same guy that attempted to kidnap on Thursday at Walmart twice? I heard ApD looked at surveillance videos at Walmart.

So often these stories turn out terribly. I am incredibly relieved for the little girl, the family, and the community that this story has a happy ending. Thanks APD.
