Lieutenant Tammany Brooks of the Antioch Police Department had the opportunity to meet with the GFWC Woman’s Club of Antioch on Sunday to talk with the group about what is occurring within the City of Antioch and its Police Department.

While there was supposed to be a domestic violence demonstration; that was postponed in order to provide general information and demonstrate how to better find information on the internet pertaining to public safety. He showed the group of participants the Antioch Police Department Facebook Page, crime maps on the PD webpage, and the interactive/contemporary information available on www.crimereports.com.

Most importantly, Lt. Brooks also provided them with some tips on what they can do to stay safe and help reduce their chance of becoming a victim of a crime.

“Part of law enforcement’s responsibility in effectively policing a community is fostering a relationship with those we serve.  Educating members of the public, maintaining open lines of communication, and encouraging collaboration benefits everyone,” said Lt. Brooks.

The Antioch Police Department and the GFWC Woman’s Club of Antioch are working on scheduling a date for when they will host a domestic violence presentation with a larger audience.

“As a community we must work together,” said club president Kay Porter. “People living in the same place sharing in common.  Being a safe community is the responsibility of all living in the same locale.  Instead of using our finger to point at others, lift your finger to help.”

The group will be offering another FREE Community Seminar regarding Elder Abuse presented by Attorney Matthew Hart in the near future with a date to be announced.
