Antioch Mayors Race Tightens, Separated by 102 Votes

The Contra Costa County Elections Office released updated results Wednesday afternoon from the November 8 election where in the Antioch Mayors Race, just 102 votes separate Wade Harper and Sean Wright.

According to the elections office, the results are still unofficial. The results, the 4th update, were released at 10:42 am by county elections.

Sean Wright (34.67%) has a total of 10,461 votes, which is a 102 vote lead over Wade Harper (34.33%) and has 10,359 votes. In each update, Wade Harper has made up ground on Wright who once held a 229-vote lead.

Lori Orgorchock holds stead in third with 21.69% of the vote (6,544) and Gil Murillo has 9.07% of the vote (2,736).

In the Antioch city council race, Lamar Thorpe continues to increase his lead as he has collected 12,123 votes (26.93%) and it appears he will become the new Mayor Pro Tem with Monica Wilson retaining her seat.

Wilson (23.46%) has a comfortable 1,167 lead over Mary Rocha (20.86%).

The rest of the council field includes Ken Turnage II who is fourth with 7,582 (16.84%). Followed by Karl Dietzel with 2,704 votes (6.01%) and Fred Rouse 5.68% (2,558)

County Elections says there next update will be on Friday, Dec. 2 before 5 pm with final unofficial results. Countywide, they have about 8,500 vote-by-mail ballots to be remade and tallied, and about 28,000 provisional ballots that need to be reviewed and processed if they are verified.

This is embarrassing that its this close and Antioch residents have not figured out it needs new elected leaders to fix this city. 102 votes shows me many people still have their heads in the sand,

I agree with Mr. Simmons to some extent. However the fact is Lori split the vote between her and Sean. Had she not run Sean would have been hands down winner. The reverse would have worked had Sean not run Lori would have won. Harper counted on the split vote and that was why he was making tacky jokes about it at last night council meeting. After all that is how he won in the first place, Agopian and Freitas split the vote.

Geez, who’s counting these ballots? Hopefully when their done we’ll get our bags back at the store.
