Antioch: Man with Loaded Firearm Arrested Outside Wells Fargo Bank

by ECT

On June 15 at 10:02 am, Antioch Police received a tip from a Wells Fargo security guard of a subject possibly staking out the bank. Police arrived and took the man into custody and located a loaded firearm.

The incident occurred at Wells Fargo Bank at 1715 A Street in Antioch where a security guard for Wells Fargo bank arrived at work and saw a brand new Dodge Charger in the parking lot occupied by an older male with long gray hair. The male saw him and moved to a different location in the lot.

Police say an armored car came to service the bank and the guard saw the male in the Charger pull up next to the armored car. The Wells Fargo guard called APD dispatch to report what he saw and continued to watch the Charger as it drove slowly through the Wells Fargo and Bank of America lots.

David Simon, 56, was contacted by officers getting out of the Charger and arrested for an outstanding warrant for DUI. Officers found bullets and alcohol in plain view inside the Charger.

The Charger was searched and a loaded .357 revolver was found underneath the driver’s seat along with methamphetamine. A sawed off shotgun was found in the trunk with numerous live rounds.

Police say Simon is a convicted felon who denied being at the bank casing it or the armored car. He claimed he just drove from Arizona to Antioch to see his sister.

He was arrested for weapons charges, drug charges and the warrant and booked into county jail.

Yep, we should ban law abiding citizens from having a CCW in these crime filled cities. The police department, sheriff’s office and politician’s that make these decisions are complete morons.

Why are we just now finding out about this? How many people could have been in danger with a man with a loaded firearm sitting in the parking lot waiting to rob them. PD should be putting out information daily, not weekly!

Try turning the public dispatch back on. Citizens need to be informed. Not tactical channels. What are they hiding?

I wonder what our great and competent Mayor has to say about this? And his plans to improve our safety in good ‘ol ghetto Antioch.

If you’re not happy in ANY city, the wisest thing to do is MOVE. Why make yourself miserable when you can easily live somewhere else. People live where they want to live and where they can afford to live. Push yourself to make more money and move on up. Quit WHINING.

I didn’t know that only people that have money can protest against crime and get their elected leaders to actually do their job?

I think out police and the chief are doing a great job, specially with what they are given to work with. They did arrest the guy and no one was hurt. Our mayor, not so much. Yes, CCW is needed for moral, trained citizens. They should not even wait until they apply but, even go look for some who would be willing. The police can only do so much.

A lot of talk about CCW. Would criminals be attracted to a city known to have CCW people on the street/ Yes they would. You see, while the citizen sits in jail awaiting the prosecutor’s decision, the criminal is stealing the guns from the home. A CCW citizen trying to stop that gun theft would end up in jail too.
