Hmm… Just as I predicted. Things are only getting worse for Antioch. I wonder how our great and competent mayor believes he should be promoted to Supervisor with all these killings? Hmm…

I wonder how king Flimflam sleeps at night.

Yesterday Mr. Harper gave his State of the City address. In the crime stat. portion he very clearly stated in the first quarter of 2016 we had 2 murders. Now that was not a lie but what he clearly avoided was truth. Yesterday we had 7 murders and slightly more than 12 hours later we have a total of 8. This is typical Harper and I don’t want him to become our Supervisor. Be educated voters Antioch!

Hi Nancy:

Sounds like the city council desperately needs to bring back the “Quality of Life Forums” so residents can voice their concerns.

Nancy Fernandez May 28, 2016 - 1:40 pm

Actually they do need to but this city manager and council will never do it. They don’t want to listen to the truth. Fortunately there is an election in November!

Gary, you would have just died if you had heard this program. It was just horrible.

It’s unfortunate the council won’t reboot the QOL forums. As you know they made HUGE difference and made APD, the school board, and especially the city council accountable to the residents.

I am getting really sick and tired of the crime in Antioch. Crime is NOT down. The police chief may soon get on the hot seat if this crime wave continues. I also think its time for the City Manager and other department heads to see the door because they are not doing their jobs. If this council does not step up, they need to be voted out in the next election. Come November, I will not be supporting Harper, Wilson or Rocha.

Exactly what would you like the chief of police do? Police didn’t create the city’s problems and are doing their best chasing thugs daily trying to keep citizens safe. Look to the city leaders for allowing the chaos!

I agree with all of what has been said. Antioch has become a killing field. Wade is an absolute disgrace. If citizens do not get involved and vote in competent folks house values will be in the toilet, businesses will fail at an alarming rate because no one wants to come near Antioch..

How many of these killings & violent crimes involve people from other cities, especially Richmond, Oakland, San Pablo…? Most of them I believe!

Our city council, manager, mayor and the rest of these officials need to get a clue! YOU opened the floodgate that allowed these people to move here, and they in turn bring their friends, relatives, lack of morals and crime to the streets of our city. Do something to close the gates into antioch, or step down to let someone else do the dirty work to fix YOUR mistakes!

This isn’t rocket science, really…

I don’t see anything in the last months of meetings about the homeless problem. It is just going to get worse!! As long as home prices are over $200,000.00, there will never be peace! My very smart, business owner, grandpa told me if you don’t make that much in a year, you can’t afford the house! Who makes what their house costs, in 1 year? Have you seen all the foreclosures going on in Antioch?! Almost 50% of the homes on the market. (Zillow) To me, that means the children of these unfortunates will have nothing! The rich will suffer when there is no firemen, hair dressers & many other services around them, because they can’t afford to live there.

It’s great to see what measure c did I to improve things!!!! Not a thing!!!! 2.5 million dollars to hire 5 more police officers. Simple math that’s $500K per police officer.’I Konw police officers don’t make $500 k. It’s sad because it makes all public servants look bad.

And you wonder why people do not want to approve more taxes until tax payers know it is being spent correctly. Think about it Burke!!!!! Look at all the fraud that goes on that ends up hurting hard working public servants.

Crime in Antioch been going on before mayor Harper became the mayor . Is time to pray and stop pointing fingers at people.

Wow. That was the most idiotic reply I have read in a while. You must be a Bernie Sanders fan.

Kevin, thank you for the honorary title.

Refreshing to see that at least one person on this site can tell the difference between trolling and actually taking stuff way too seriously. Only the thickheaded and sheepish among us attack anonymous screen names rather than the actual arguments being presented.

Peace, fellow digital humanoid.

Did everybody forget that a person lost his life? May he RIP. And my thoughts go out to his family and friends…

And what about Measure O – Business License Fee for rental property owners. Another extortion by the Council for those of us that invested in Antioch. What am I getting for my yearly $250 fee on top of my property taxes? Multiply that number by the number of apartment units and rental houses and ask where does that $$$$ go?

Gary Gilbert May 29, 2016 - 12:45 pm

If you folks REALLY want things to change for the better, you need to put fear in the city council. Complaining on this message boards won’t accomplish anything.

If you want to bring attention to the fear and frustration law-abiding citizens are feeling in Antioch, you need to get a LARGE group of residents together, invite various newspapers and T.V. news stations and hold a citizens only press conference. During the press conference highlight the complete failure of the city council to address escalating crime in Antioch and their unwillingness to listen to your concerns.

The best way to get the attention of a politician is to threaten their ability to remain or seek higher office. You folks have ALL the power now STOP whining and complaining and use it to your advantage!

It seems to me that the population will continue to grow in Antioch and Brentwood due to rising rents in the bay area. Just face it. That means the resources provided on such a small scale for a small city are simply not enough. Complaining about transplants will not work. Besides wishing hate and death on orhers what work are we the residents willing to put in to build a more successful city?

Hanakinz May 31, 2016 - 4:18 pm

Your solution…Thats not gonna work. It isnt now.

Voter May 31, 2016 - 6:57 pm

Can we just have a murderless month this year in Antioch ? The leadership in Antioch is doing a really poor job of making life better in their city. Pretty soon there will be free guns and ammo to section 8 felons.

All the taxes go to these people who do nothing and i doubt they even live here . its time for people to quit paying taxes that our officails just use for their big paying jobs. Just like bart we have been paying on that since the 70s so if we were smart we wouldnt vote or pay taxes because i see the averge worker going further in debt. nd fee medical to illegal people is just wrong
