Antioch: In Custody Death of Parolee at Large Under Investigation

by ECT

The Antioch Police Department and the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s office are investigating an early morning in custody death that occurred on E. 6th Street in Antioch.

The incident stems from February 3 where at approximately 8:20 PM a 37 year old male walked out of an area hospital against doctor’s orders after being admitted the day before. The hospital notified the Antioch Police Department.

IMG_9154Officers responded and searched for the subject who was wanted on a parolee at large warrant and has a long history of violent crimes and drug offenses. The male was not located at that time.

On February 5 at approximately 3:12 AM an officer checking an occupied vehicle at the east end of E. 6th Street found the parolee and a friend sleeping in the vehicle. While attempting to take the parolee into custody he fought violently with officers.

Once the officers were able to restrain him, an ambulance was summoned to the scene to treat him for injuries sustained during the fight with officers. As the ambulance arrived the subject began having some sort of medical distress and life saving measures were taken.

IMG_9170The 37 year old male was transported to an area hospital and later pronounced deceased. The friend in the vehicle did not get involved in the confrontation and is cooperating with the police. The involved officers sustained only minor injuries.

Because this is considered an in custody death, the county protocol was invoked. The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office, the Contra Costa County Crime Lab and the Antioch Police Department will be conducting an investigation into the facts surrounding this incident.

No further information will be released at this time regarding the investigation.

IMG_9165Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to call Detective Vanderpool with the Antioch Police Department at (925)779-6988.

Any further information or additional press releases will be provided by the Investigations Bureau at (925) 779-6939.

Are u all that twisted and more if not as heartless as the police? This man was 37 years old, shot and injured leaving the hospital against doctors orders. So obviously hes not cooperating and snitching make it easier so police dont have to do there job but rather push him out the door and not worry about catching the shooter the real suspect, why wont they release the victims name. That’s someone’s family. Why is he being treated as a suspect when really he’s a victim. What about the person who shot him? That just goes to show how messed up this place has become. And shady OUR, yep that means non- parolees or anyone for that matter even the victims will and are treated as suspects, epxpendable. Fuck A.P.D. AND ANYONE WHO SUPPORT THE REAL CRIMINALS. THE ONES WITH THE BADGES…..

Where did Antioch go wrong??????? Feb 5, 2016 - 5:22 pm

@Yup so a different murder/rapist/sodomist decided this dudes fate? Makes no sense. Be consistent, if all murderers deserve justice than your “god” should be first.

No one is innocent. Collectively we are ravaging the planet. Collectively we are living on stolen land. All we eat, all we wear, all we are entertained by in this country has roots in suffering, evil, and true crime. Just because you don’t pull the trigger doesn’t mean you’re not a killer. This congratulatory back-slapping over each “criminal’s” death is ironic, since all of us shall meet our fate in the meat-grinder of the true overlord of the planet…

GOD BLESS APD Feb 5, 2016 - 8:55 pm

He was wanted on parole. Do you really believe any police officer goes to work, wanting a confrontation like this. Most police officer have family’s, retirement accounts and make a fair living. PLEASE HEAR ME OUT HERE. There pay checks look the same regardless of what they do. Sorry that’s not true, the more they get involved and try to help do the right thing the more likely they are to end up in a situation like this with people hateing on them and there managers questioning every move or thought they had. Maybe have pay docked or lose there job. They become the guilty. Much easier to not get involved as a police officer!!!! Wait until shooting, knifing, robbery etc is done and be safe and take a report. Go home to your family and the same old pay check. NO PROBLEMS.

Probably be best in place like Antioch. Thin the heard. Natural selection… God Bless in police officer that try’s to make a diffrence. Nota easy task. A lot of these people have mental deficits and it’s hard to make a diffrence!!!! Please don’t give up and keep trying.

This is my cousin. Troubled he was. I grew up with this man, side by side. I knew his soul and it was a beautiful one. He was funny, loving and caring. Idk what happened here or even if here was foul play. But I know it is not anyone’s place to be judge and jury, especially before all the facts come out.

Honestly the dude probably wasn’t from Antioch, didn’t grow up here, probably could care less about the well being of our community so who cares. Another leach off of our system. Yea yea African Americans have felt oppression but so have “Americans” and “South Americans”. We all got a life to live and this dude went AMA (against medical advice). Going against the ones there vouching to serve you, obviously just a number. Let’s give a moment of silence out of respect to life; but us Antiochians keep moving on and look to a better tomorrow. 100

Too bad he wasn’t a puppy. The real killers would be posting like crazy on this article, wanting to see blood bleeding from someone.

Tibby Feb 6, 2016 - 12:26 pm

If he would of cooperated with the police and give himself up peacefully he would probably be here today …he should of never left the hospital against doctors orders anyway. He was a criminal who broke the law so why do you blame the police for his actions. Be a law abiding citizen and you don’t have to worry about any of this. Come on oakland, richmond, and whoever else who came to our once nice little town and destroyed it with ratchet people who can to live in million dollar houses for almost nothing thanks section 8 and afford jordons shoes that cost over $200 or $300 that 90 percent of the kids have. It’s disgusting how there’s no parenting and guidance…sad very sad

Allahu akbarbarian Feb 7, 2016 - 2:51 am

@Tibby it’s not sad; first pillar of Buddhism- life is suffering. We all go thru some obstacle that shows us that life is better when we bring each other up. No one trips when they see roadkill on the street (even though that might be a kids best friend) but everyone trips when it’s our species, human. No one thinks about death until it’s already here; that’s why we gotta enhance life before it ends. Yadidamean
