At 8:54 pm Monday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a reported transformer fire which upon arrival was upgraded to a first-alarm response on Hidden Glenn Drive in Antioch.
CONFIRE arrived on scene to see a vacant home with what appeared to be a fuse box on fire. They realized the home was vacant and performed a forced entry. Open seeing the home filled with black smoke, they called for a first-alarm response. Crews quickly found the source of the fire which was coming within a wall and were able to limited damage.
Firefighters soon discovered the home was a grow operation—admittedly they called it a small grow with a few hundred plants at various stages. PG&E was called to the scene as electricity was apparently being stolen to operate the growth.
CONFIRE crews were on scene for roughly 3-hours. Engine 52 from East Contra Costa Fire Protection District was the 5th Engine used in the incident.
