Antioch: Hay Bale Fire Still Burning, Estimated at $25k Loss

At 10:46 pm on July 4, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a report of a vegetation fire along Deer Valley Road and Empire Mines Road in Antioch.

Upon arrival, Battalion Chief 5 located a large hay bale on fire and requested the roadway be shut down as crews worked.

As of 7:00 am July 5, East Contra Costa fire reported the hay bale was still on fire and they are letting it burn itself out with crews still on scene.

CALFIRE is assisting with the fire and stayed on scene overnight. The hay bales were farmed just a few weeks ago.

It’s unclear if the fire was started by fireworks and firefighters stated the fire was “suspicious”.

The total loss is $25,000.
