Antioch H.S. Put Briefly on Lock Down Yesterday After Nearby Gunfire

by ECT

Rick Hurd and Paul Burgarino of the Contra Costa Times put out a story yesterday about the shooting near Antioch High School that put the school on lockdown less than 5-minutes after the reported gunfire.

The Times reports the 16-year-old boy who was shot was not a student and did have warrants out for his arrest while being uncooperative with police.

Antioch and Live Oak high schools, Antioch Middle School, and Fremont and Marsh elementary schools were locked down for a short time I wanted to provide the text of the Antioch Police Department Press Release just in case anyone had any information regarding this shooting.

As of this afternoon, there is no update on this incident according to Leonard Orman, Support Services Captain.

Here is what yesterdays Antioch Police Press Release stated:

Antioch Police responded to a call of a male shot in the 600 block of W. 19th Street. Upon police arrival at the scene no victims were located. Several spent shell casings were located in the street. A short time later, APD was notified the victim had arrived at a nearby hospital with a single non-life threatening gunshot wound. He is being treated and expected to make a full recovery. Officers were unable to locate any homes or vehicles on scene that had any damage from gunfire. As of the time of this writing no other victims have been located.

That street runs directly behind our city library and is the source of many police calls.
