Antioch: Gunshot Wound to the Head Leaves One Dead on L Street

At 8:38 pm New Years Eve, Antioch Police responded to numerous reports of gunshots at the 2100 Block of L Street. Upon arrival, police located a 30-year-old male inside an apartment where he was suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel.

According to police, witnesses were present and have provided statements to Officers. A handgun was recovered from the scene and was collected as evidence.

The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene. The investigation is pending the final results from the Coroner’s investigation.

No further information was provided.

Update: The  Contra Costa County Coroner has identified Melvin Bryant, Jr. as the man shot inside the apartment.

antioch residents “learn” about the shooting, 24 hours later. i wonder what else is hold back, or what other “news” we never learn about.
the city has 18 police officers positions authorized and funded, but is still NOT hiring.

@Karl… we posted this incident on our Facebook Page when it happened last night in our New Years open thread. We also posted the same incident in our recap of all the calls from New Years.

Antioch PD is not going to release any information until hey are ready no matter how nicely we ask. They are doing their job as best they can considering the amount of incidents they had in the last 24-hours due to the holiday.

My only confusion is the time stamp on all these comments!! They range from 8:29-8:46 PM on Jan. 1st. Unless I fell into a black hole on my side of Brentwood, it isn’t even 8:15pm yet!! My clocks and computer are currently showing 8:11pm. Someone needs to fix a computer clock somewhere!
