Antioch: Firefighters Rescue Dog During Two-Alarm Fire on W. 9th

by ECT

At 11:32 am Monday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a report of a residential structure fire in the 100 block of W. 9th Street in Antioch.

Fire crews reported smoke showing from fire stations prior to the response and smoke could be seen from as far away as Oakley.

Upon arrival, crews observed heavy smoke and flames coming from the home.  As a precaution for neighboring homes, a second alarm was called which brought in an additional 5 engines–including aid from East Contra Costa Fire Protection District.

Within about 20-minutes, the fire was knocked down and during the process, a dog was rescued who had run inside the home as firefighters had made entry. A firefighter picked up the dog and handed it off to a neighbor to care for the dog as firefighters worked to put out the fire.

According to radio traffic, initial reports were that someone was trapped in the home, however, a search of the home showed no victims were located.

Contra Costa Fire Protection District is currently investigating the fire.
