At 5:10 pm Friday, Contra Costa County firefighters responded to a report of heavy smoke coming from a homeless encampment in a field near Viera Avenue and Oakley Road.
The incident shot a cloud of smoke up into the air which could be observed for miles as firefighters arrived on scene to a fully involved fire that had overtaken the entire camp.
Within 10 minutes the fire was under control without incident.
