Antioch: Firefighters Battle 4-Alarm Apartment Complex Fire

by ECT

At 9:59 pm Friday, Contra Costa County Fire were dispatched to an apartment complex fire in the 3900 block of Delta Fair Blvd in Antioch.

Upon arrival, firefighters located an apartment on fire along with PG&E wires down starting to spread to to a second building along with a vegetation fire.

According to Robert Marshall, Contra Costa County Fire spokesperson, the fire went to 4-alarms with 3-people injured from moderate smoke inhalation who were transported to a local hospital.

“As far as the cause of the fire, we are still looking into that,” said Marshall. “We believe it started outside the complex as a vegetation fire and spread to the structures. It’s still over 90-degrees at 11:00 pm at night. That is the primary reason we went to four-alarms, because with that heat and people wearing heavy gear, that becomes a problem in a hurry and make sure no one gets head exhaustion.”

Marshall says both the structure fire and vegetation fires were under control within an hour and would have heavy mop up due to three structures being damaged. One sustained major damage with two suffering moderate damage.

A few of the challenges included the heat, the location of where the vegetation fire because it was an empty fenced lot. The apartment complex is small so making access was difficult explained Marshall.

In total, 3 buildings which included 18 units were damaged. Damage estimated at $990,000 while the vegetation fire was limited to 1-acre.

A great job was done by all of our ConFire personnel. Thank you for all you did in very difficult circumstances, especially the 90 degree heat. You are all appreciated for what you do for us every day, to protect, defend, and serve. God bless you!
