Antioch: Construction Crew Hits Gas Line Wednesday Morning on Lone Tree Way

by ECT
PG&E

Just before 10:30 am Wednesday, PG&E and Contra Costa County Fire were notified that a third party construction crew struck a one-inch gas line at McDonalds in Deer Valley Plaza on Lone Tree Way.

The incident shut down the area while crews were in the area for 4-hours.

According to PG&E Spokesperson Tamar Sarkissian, their gas service representative arrived on the scene at 10:38 to assess the scene and make the area safe. A gas crew was brought in to stop the flow of gas and worked on making repairs safely and quickly as possible.

Sarkissian added that April is National Safe Digging Month, and this incident is a good reminder why it’s important to call 811 before any digging project, large or small. A free call to 811 will ensure that all underground utilities mark their lines prior to any digging work to avoid situations like the one in Antioch. Even homeowners working on projects like planting an tree or putting in a new fence are strongly encouraged to call 811 three business days before starting the project.

  • PG&E 2017 Dig-in Numbers:
  • PG&E Service Area (Northern and Central California) – 1,780 dig-ins last year
  • Contra Costa County: 134
  • East County Area (Antioch, Brentwood, Pittsburg, Oakley, Discovery Bay) – 20
  • Antioch – 9

This would have been nice to know in real time instead of a day after the fact.
