Antioch Code Enforcement Possibly Shot at While at Homeless Encampment

by ECT

Just before 3:00 pm Thursday, Antioch Police responded to a report by its code enforcement officers that while they were at a homeless encampment they heard a gun shot.

Police responded to the field between Yellowstone Drive and Trembath St where multiple homeless encampments are located. Police, along with a helicopter overhead, searched the area for a suspect and a weapon.

According to police on scene, they could not confirm details, but did say they were investigating if code enforcement was shot at because they heard a shot fired from one of the camps while they were in the area. There were no reported injuries.

At least one man was detained, but later released after being questioned.

No further details were made available.

5:05 pm Update
According to Antioch Police Captain Diane Aguinaga, police determined after their investigation that code enforcement mistakenly thought they heard a gunshot nearby when it was actually a quad vehicle in the field that was backfiring.
