Antioch: Car Fire Ignites 30-Acre Vegetation Fire Along Highway 4

by ECT

At 6:01 pm Sunday, firefighters responded to a report of a vehicle fire on eastbound State Route 4 at the CA-160 Connector.

Upon arrival, firefighters located a vehicle fire that was fully involved and spread to vegetation along Highway 4. The fire got away from firefighters with just 2-units on scene and began to work its way up the hill towards homes.

By 6:22, additional units were requested for a full wildland fire response and structure protection to the area of Meadow Lake Street and Armagosa Drive–this included all three East Contra Costa Fire Protection District units.

Firefighters were able to control and limit the fire to about 30-acres and were on scene for 5-hours and 14-minutes.

According to Battalion Chief Charles Thomas, while fighting this fire, a structural fire started in Martinez and soon after that, crews could see dark smoke  rising in the Brentwood are from another fire.  The potential loss if fire reached the surrounding community is estimated in the millions.

All three East Contra Costa Fire Protection District units called to this fire leaving no coverage for Brentwood, Oakley, Knightsen or Discovery Bay? Isn’t that wonderful?!? Keep your hoses on the ready neighbors!

ECT can you confirm there has been an unusual amount of car fires within a mile of the 160/4 interchange? Was this vehicle abandoned?
