Antioch: Body Recovered from Canal

At 8:45 am Thursday, Antioch Police responded to a report of a body located in the canal along the Delta de Anza Trail off James Donlon Boulevard near Nightingale Drive.

Authorities responded after a man was walking along the trail and spotted the body in the water and he immediately called 9-1-1.

IMG_3036Contra Costa County Firefighters responded and began to prepare for a water rescue, however, they determined the subject was deceased and the incident became a body recovery.

Rescue crews worked for about an hour before pulling the male out of the water by 9:50 am. The African American male was estimated to be in his 30’s per a source on scene.

Police are currently investigating if the man is related to a felony hit and run incident on Tuesday where two people entered the Antioch Community Park, however, police only could locate a female. Police could not locate the man during a search. On Wednesday, a missing person’s report was filed.

As of 1:00 pm, police have not yet confirmed the link.

In total, Antioch Police, the East Bay Regional Park District police, Contra Costa Firefighters, and Contra Costa Water District staff responded.

Antioch police are expected to release information about the incident sometime Thursday afternoon.
