Antioch: Assault With A Deadly Weapon on a Police Officer Leads to Pursuit

At 7:04 pm Wednesday night, a 36-year-old male of Antioch struck a police vehicle during a traffic stop in the area of G St. at Texas St. which led to an hour long chase.

The pursuit went through cities of Antioch, Pittsburg, Bay Point and Concord with multiple agencies getting involved at different points of the pursuit—including the California Highway Patrol and Pittsburg Police.

According to Antioch Police Sergeant Morefield, speeds in the pursuit reached up to 100-mph on Highway 4. Police also set up spike strips were deployed several times during the pursuit, flattening some, but not all of the tires of the suspect vehicle.

The pursuit ultimately ended up in the area of G St. and Longview Rd. in Antioch, as the suspect vehicle circled the neighborhood, driving on its rims

The pursuit ended when the suspect vehicle was disabled in the 2900 block of Longview Rd and the driver (a 36-year-old male) fled on foot. This suspect was quickly apprehended a short distance away by the pursuing officers. He was later sent to the Martinez Detention Facility for charges including Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Police Officer and Felony Evading

No officers or civilians were injured during this incident and there were no reported vehicle collisions. This case is still under investigation by the involved police agencies.

Police did not release the subjects name.

Notes:

  • To clear up why Richmond Police, FBI, California Dept. of Corrections and the District Attorney Investigators were involved in the pursuit was because earlier that evening, they were working with the Antioch Police Department to conduct a proactive enforcement detail in the city of Antioch. The operation targets high crime areas in the city. With the passage of Measure C, this unit will be more active once funding comes in during the springtime.
  • A California Highway Patrol Officer was hit, but not  injured as the pursuit came to an end.
  • According to radio traffic, the subject was bit by the police canine after he took off on foot.
  • Contra Costa County Fire Protection District was called as there was a reported car fire inside the vehicle during the pursuit.
  • Finally, not to be forgotten in the incident is the vital role dispatch played in the chase keeping officers from multiple jurisdictions in the loop with solid communication and up-to-date information. Also a hat tip to the crew overhead in the helicopter.

Measure C funds was a contributor to this arrest? Please explain how.

The tax increase does not take effect until ALMOST the middle of next year. How did measure C magically help with this specific incident?

We have no measure C money yet. It will be at least 6 months before we see a dime.

Not all African Americans commit crime, clearly! This suspect is white and now the public doesn’t have any comments to say about race. When he committed a more serious crime than shoplifting at old navy.

Not all but MOST Blacks in Antioch commit crime. Get your head out of your arse.

Reginald Jamal Brown Dec 13, 2013 - 12:17 am

Oh by the way.. you want to talk about SERIOUS offenses in Antioch? 95% of all the rapes and murders in Antioch is done by your fellow brothas and sistas.

Just look at the last couple of murders, shootings, and domestic violence news articles during the last couple of weeks.

Again, get your head out of your arse.

Why does anyone make racist comments, all “people” do bad things, not just one color person…

Be sure your sins will find you out!!!! This guy is busted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Must of hurt when the dog bit him… He deserved it. Thank you police for getting this guy where he belongs. Thank you to all the first responders. I hope to become a paramedic someday to help save lives, it doesn’t get any better than that…putting your head on your pillow at night knowing you did everything you could to save lives.

The city of Antioch is a joke. Why care about a town that does nothing for their community. Antioch don’t even have a city Christmas tree like all the other cities. Not to mention they offer nothing for entertainment or activities for youth. So whats left to do?? Cigaaaaaz!
