The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and Antioch Police are currently investigating a series of suspicious fires Tuesday night.

In total, 5-vegetation fires were reported within a period of 30-minutes, including at a school and another that threatened a church.

  • 8:50 pm – 700 W 18th Street
  • 9:02 pm – 91 Cataline Ave
  • 9:19 pm – 1 Spartan Way – 1/10 acre at front of Park Middle School
  • 9:30 pm – Walton & Lone Tree 9:30pm
  • 9:42 pm – Walton Lane at Antioch Methodist Church

According to Battalion Chief Jim Huntze, both the arson investigator and Antioch Police are continuing to investigate and are following up on leads in the case.

Huntze noted that firefighters made quick aggressive fire attacks on these fires and were able to contain the fires to the vegetation and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby homes.

Suspect information was provided to Antioch Police, but it was not released.
