Antioch 9 Year Old A Semifinalist in National Pitch, Hit and Run Competition

by ECT

Landon Wheeler

Nine-year-old Landon Wheeler of Antioch will be representing the Delta Baseball and Softball League on June 15 when the San Francisco Giants will be hosting the MLB “Team Championships” for the National Pitch, Hit and Run Competition.

Landon’s win in the local competition held in Antioch advanced him to the sectional level held in Pleasant Hill, CA. There, Landon scored a 922, a score only bested by the 13-14 year old first place and second place boys.

At the sectionals, Landon’s combined score of 922 was ultimately the result of 5 of 6 pitches on the required strike zone target, a hit greater than 100ft (in the air), and a run of 8.95 seconds.

If Wheeler can place in the top three scores in San Francisco, he will advance to the 2014 MLB All-Star game in Minneapolis, Minnesota on July 15.

Wheeler began playing baseball with Delta Baseball & Softball League in Antioch at the age of 4 and is currently playing baseball for Delta Baseball & Softball League as well as Perks Sports Academy.

He recently finished 4th grade as an honor roll student at John Muir Elementary in Antioch. In the past 2 seasons, Landon has helped the PSA Perks-Titans 9U and 10U teams earn a total of 11 Tournament Baseball championships. Recently, the 9U Perks-Titans entered into the 10u age bracket of the All World Brentwood Memorial Day classic.

Wheeler took to the mound for the final two innings of the championship game allowing no runs and helping the 9U Perks-Titans Majors team win the championship.
