Antioch: 9 Displaced After 2-Alarm Fire, $175k in Damages

At 5:39 pm Monday, Contra Costa County firefighters responded to a report of a fence fire at a auto body shop in the 1700 block of Auto Center Drive in Antioch.

IMG_4562Upon arrival, firefighters located the fence fire along W. 18th Street and threatening three homes along Tulip Drive. A second-alarm response was immediately requested after one of the homes caught fire.

Firefighters went into defensive mode to protect neighboring structures as one of the homes was seriously damaged by the fire, but they were able to protect a second home, however it sustained major damage to the backyard. A local business also sustained exterior damage, but firefighters were able to preserve the structure.

Antioch Police were called to shut down the roadway for several hours while fire crews worked the incident. East Contra Costa Fire also sent Engine 93 (Oakley) as part of the second-alarm response.

In total, 5 adults and 4 children were displaced by the fire which caused an estimated $175,000 in damaged between two structures.

No cause of the fire has yet been released.
