AD-11: Goode Pulls Mike Hudson Endorsement

by ECT

Kudos to Vacaville City Council Candidate Jennifer Goode for taking a leadership position in withdrawing her support of AD-11 Candidate Mike Hudson based off his recent actions against public safety.

Goode explained how she became aware of comments made during the Oakley Chamber of Commerce forum in May where he made comments that referred to firefighters as “union thugs”, but has since observed other instances where he has taken anti-public safety stances.  That raised a red flag.

She explained that she had been monitoring his campaign and noticed how his message had changed from supporting police and fire to going further and further right to touting the party line and demonizing police and fire.

“Since I am running for City Council, it’s important that I make my intentions clear. It is not okay to support someone who makes statements like that. I just can’t endorse someone who uses that type of language.” stated Goode. “It’s problematic when Police and Fire leadership feels abandoned by City leaders. I want to make it clear that I will provide the support they are seeking and that I do not condone any derogatory references to them.”

Goode explained that she was getting people coming up to her asking about her relationship and support of Mike Hudson. They were questioning her about him because he was attacking public safety. The more this occurred, the more she felt the need to distance herself from him because he was hurting her campaign. Ultimately, she felt the best move for her was to rescind the endorsement and any support.

As a fiscal conservative, she stated she hates taxes; however, public safety is a number one priority to her.

“If we have to pay a little more for public safety then that is okay.  We need to make sure police and fire have the ability and tools to respond in an emergency which will reduce our liability as a society,” explained Goode.

She informed the Hudson campaign that she would be withdrawing her support and had the campaign remove her name from his website.

Her concerns began with Hudson’s opposition to Measure S in East Contra Costa County.

In Contra Costa County, she stated she would have hoped Mike Hudson had supported ECCFPD $197 parcel tax which states she supported it. She is also supporting CONFIREs $75 tax and is encouraging others to get behind it.

“Nothing is for free. People’s taxes go toward providing adequate public safety, and I believe residents are supportive of that,”said Goode. “You can ask anyone: when you dial 9-1-1, you want a quick response. It is never okay to take measures that would reduce our level of service to those who pay for and depend on it.”

“Mike Hudson is a good person outside of the political world, but when public safety is getting beat up in the media, they don’t need elected officials further demonizing them. As elected officials, we should be supporting them and partnering them,” explained Goode.

She added, “This isn’t personal against Mike, he has a good message, but I can’t stand behind someone who demonize and attacks public safety, it doesn’t solve anything.  It’s not productive and doesn’t solve anything.

When asked if she would support Jim Frazier for Assembly District 11, she stated she would take a few days to learn more about him

“I commend Mr. Frazier on his stance in promoting public safety and receiving all those endorsements, but I need to take some time to think about it.”

Some of Fraziers public safety endorsements include:

  • Contra Costa Deputy Sheriffs’ Association
  • Peace Officers’ Research Association of California
  • California Statewide Law Enforcement Association
  • Association of Criminalist – Department of Justice
  • California Association of Fraud Investigators
  • California Association of Regulatory Investigators and Inspectors
  • California Association of Special Investigators
  • California Association of Law Enforcement Employees
  • California Highway Patrol – Public Safety Dispatchers Association
  • Resources Protection Peace Officers Association
  • Antioch Police Officers Association
  • Pittsburg Police Officers Association
  • California Correctional Peace Officers Association
  • Suisun City Police Officers Association

For more information on Jennifer Goode, you can visit her campaign website for more information. Currently, she has four opponents.

For the record, I am a Jennifer Goode fan after this interview today. She has shown she can be a leader and a free thinker and will break the party line when it best serves not only the City, but public safety in general. This is the type of leaders we need in office and she has my full support going forward.

Wow, thank you for your dedication to public safety Ms. Goode. I’ve never heard of you but good for you! Mike Hudson really is a piece of trash.

It takes guts to do what you did. Never been a Hudson fan but now I may become a Goode fan! We need leaders like you instead of those like Carissa Pillows and Mike Hudson who attack our public safety. This one is a jaw dropper. I knew Hudson made the comment about fire thugs in the past, but did not know it was at this level.

No to Hudson Aug 14, 2012 - 4:56 pm

Hudson is what is wrong with the Republican Party. The guy is a hypocrite and already seeing his illegal signs placed everywhere.

As an East Contra Costa Firefighter and a resident of Vacaville that is good news.

Hudson’s son is a police officer so I’m pretty skeptical that he’s so anti public safety. Sounds more like it came from the mouth of Ms. Goode’s campaign manager – who used to work for Hudson until he was fired. Disgruntled ex-employee perhaps?

Rumor has it Hudson could not afford to keep him and is a fraud. Nice of him to preach fiscal conservative values but he can’t even pay his bills. Just saying…

The comment is on videotape. Never real smart to deny a comment caught on tape.
