A 22-year-old Elk Grove man is in the hospital after shooting himself inside Renaissance ClubSport on Jones Rd. in Walnut Creek.
Investigators from the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff and the D.A.’s Office are continuing to investigate an officer involved incident that occurred this morning per the countywide officer involved protocol.
At 12:52 AM, Sheriff’s dispatch received a call regarding a welfare check. The caller stated that a friend wanted to shoot himself. Deputies responded to the location on the 2800 block of Jones Road in unincorporated Walnut Creek.
Deputies contacted the person through a closed door. They later entered the room but found the person had locked himself in a bathroom. Deputies again made verbal contact. A short while later, a gunshot was heard in the bathroom. Deputies entered the bathroom finding the man suffering from a gunshot wound.
They provided first-aid until the fire department arrived. The man, a 22-year-old from Elk Grove, was transported to a local hospital. He is not being identified.
